On July 18, as part of the Cēsis City Festival, Cēsu alus brewery and Cēsis county municipality presented the annual “Cēsnieks” award. This year, the honorary title “Cēsnieks 2025” was received by Agrita Bartušēvica, a mathematics teacher at Cēsis State Gymnasium.

Agrita Bartušēvica is a highly appreciated teacher who received the University of Latvia award “Teacher of the Year 2024” in the “Mathematics Teacher” nomination in 2024. This award confirms her excellence in professional work, as well as her significant contribution to the improvement of students’ knowledge. Agrita is not only an inspiring teacher for her students, but also actively involved in the development of mathematics skills of students throughout Cēsis region, creating a pilot exam for ninth graders.

She not only teaches mathematics brilliantly, but also inspires students who truly respect and love her. The people of Cēsis also appreciate Agrita’s contribution to education, and the “Cēsnieks 2025” award is a sincere tribute to her long-standing, honest work.”

The candidates for the “Cēsnieks 2025” award were determined by a jury commission, evaluating the most notable events and personalities in the life of the city of Cēsis. Among the candidates for the 2025 “Cēsnieks” award were Kristīne Auniņa, manager of the art space MALA, Baiba Bendika, biathlete, Vinetas and Allas KĀRUMLĀDE and its owners Vineta Žamoidika and Alla Oldermane, and Agrita Bartušēvica, mathematics teacher.

Every Cēsnieks and Latvian resident had the opportunity to vote for the candidates nominated by the commission and determine the winner of the title “Cēsnieks 2025” on the voting website www.cesnieks.lv from July 1 to 14.
